Yashna Batra
Yashna Batra is an international lawyer with cross-border experience spanning tier-1 mergers and acquisitions and confidential investigations for United Nations specialised agencies. She holds a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge, where she specialised in artificial intelligence regulation and wrote her thesis on how AI systems can discriminate against women and minorities in the financial sector.
Selflessly Yours grew out of Yashna’s time volunteering at Asha Grih, a home in New Delhi for runaway and orphaned children, where she began tutoring children on weekends in 2013. Hearing their stories of abuse, exploitation and neglect, she founded Selflessly Yours in 2014, aged 16, with a group of school friends. Its aim was to support underprivileged children directly and to act as a bridge for the NGOs already working with them. What began with a fundraising stall at the Indian festival of ‘Diwali’ quickly grew. Since then, Yashna has authored a guide to child rights, which was acknowledged by the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights of India. She also received a Letter of Appreciation from the Government of India, Ministry of Women and Child Development, and was appointed a Youth Champion by the South Asian Initiative to End Violence Against Children (SAIEVAC).
Today, Selflessly Yours runs fundraisers, tuition and expert-led workshops for more than 100 children each year, and its Women Empowerment Programme has helped more than 70 women find employment through vocational training.
