Sajita
On: 14th November 2014
Sajita (name changed ) an eleven year old girl opened up after several interactions, telling us her shocking story. Sajita used to stay with her sister and her father in Bihar. Her father who was an alcoholic used to beat her and her sister and eventually abandoned them. After this, Sajita was sent to stay with her aunt and grandmother and her sister with her uncle, thus separating. The two were not allowed to meet each other. Sajita had to do various household chores like, making food, cleaning utensils, cleaning the house, getting wood etc, only after which she would get food to eat. Her sister was abused and even burnt by her uncle for want of money. Sajita was very apprehensive and nervous while talking to us. She was so distracted by her thoughts that we had to repeat what we were saying several times to get an answer. Although Sajita and her sister are now in a safe and nurturing environment at Asha Grih, they will always have the horrific scars of the atrocities they faced. Moreover what will happen to them after they turn eighteen and shelter homes can no longer look after them? Its time to act. Its time to ensure that all Sajitas of this nation are protected.
